BC Medical Services Plan

Insurance Coverage Medical Services Plan of BC (MSP) funding for acupuncture treatment is available for people receiving premium assistance. Not sure if you qualify for coverage? Don’t worry, we will confirm this for you and let you know how many treatments you have remaining for the year. Please bring your care card or personal health number with you to your initial appointment. A doctor’s referral is NOT required.

MSP pays for a combined annual limit of 10 visits for acupuncture treatment. MSP covers $23.00 per visit and for your convenience, we bill MSP directly. You are charged for the balance of your treatment fees. *We don't take MSP patients for RMT.

Extended Health Benefits

Extended health benefits vary from plan to plan and usually coverage for acupuncture, RMT, Kinesiology Naturopathic treatments are between 70-100% of treatment fees. Some plans offer a dollar amount per year instead of a percentage.

Please check your benefits booklet or contact your insurance provider in order to be clear on the details of your coverage.

Direct Billing to Extended Health Plans

Acupuncture, RMT, Kinesiology and Naturopathic treatments are covered by most Extended Health Care Plans in BC. We now offer direct billing to many Extended Health Plans for Acupuncture, RMT and Naturopathic Medicine. If your insurance company doesn’t allow this, you can submit a claim for reimbursement by mail or online using your treatment receipt. Once your insurance company processes your claim, they will mail you a cheque or send a direct deposit to your bank account. (We recommend that you submit your receipts regularly – every 3 months or so is a good habit to get into.)  *Please note that while most insurance companies cover Kinesiology treatments, they typically do not allow clinics to bill directly for these services. You will need to submit the receipt for reimbursement.

Some claims may require further processing. In this case, we can submit your claim to your insurance provider with the condition of receiving your credit card information for back-up payment. Once your insurance provider sends us the confirmation/result of your coverage, we will proceed with the payment and send you a receipt by email. The result from your insurance provider will determine how much it gets charged. This service is free of charge, which means if your benefit covers 100% of the treatment fees, there will be no charge applies to you at all.

  1. Choosing Your Practitioner: ICBC only allows patients to change their practitioner up to two times during your approved treatment sessions. Choose your practitioner carefully to avoid complications.

  2. Transferring Between Clinics: If you are transferring from another clinic, ensure that a proper transfer process is completed before beginning treatment at Yoon Clinic. Failing to do so may delay your treatment or affect your claim.

  3. Same-Day Treatments: You should not receive the same treatment from multiple clinics on the same day. Doing so could result in one of the claims being denied, and you may be held responsible for the payment.
